Central to the Language College aims is an increase in the range and provision of languages in the curriculum. This was not an easy task as every Key Stage 3 student already studied 2 languages and every student in Key Stage 4 already took at least one full language GCSE in French, German or Russian.

A major innovation has been the introduction of the OCR Certificate in Business Language Competence in Spanish for all students in Years 10 and 11. All Key Stage 4 students now study for at least 2 language qualifications.

Further reinforcement of the Key Stage 4 curriculum will see the establishment of GCSE Spanish, making four language options at the end of year 9.

The department offers a range of accredited courses:

GCSE Courses
French German
Russian Spanish

AQA Examination board

Certificate of Achievement Courses
French German

OCR Examination board

Business Courses
Spanish

In addition we have an excellent partnership with John Leggott College. The college has reintroduced A Level Russian and Frederick Gough has provided time and staff. Continuity will thus be re-established for Russian from Year 8 to Year 12. The first group of AS students began in September.
